We charge $60 an hour for restoration work, plus the cost of the print. Typically a 50% deposit is made at the time of the original order. No restoration procedure is attempted on your original image. A high resolution scan or digital picture is taken of your original, and we digitally restore that copy. Typical restoration projects range anywhere from 10 minutes to 15 hours, depending on the amount of damage the image has sustained. Occasionally a customer will bring us an entire album to be restored. It is not uncommon for such projects to run into the thousands. We are unable to give price quotes on your particular image(s) without seeing it first. Typically our customers will make an appointment or just drop by to show us their image. Once we have carefully examined your image, we will then be able to give you a price quote for the restoration work your image needs.
Due to the time consuming nature and high demand for restoration work, projects may take several weeks to finish. Depending on our current workload, we will let you know approximately how long your project will take us to complete. Rush orders are available, (i.e. funerals) however, we reserve the right to charge for that rush. Once your order is finished, you may order as many prints as you like and in as many sizes as you like. You only pay for the restoration work once, so if any additional copies are ordered in the future, you only pay the cost of the print. Copy and Restoration prints fall under the same
price category as portrait prints.
Restoration work is expensive and unfortunately there are few shortcuts we can take to speed up the process. That is why great care or your precious photos should be taken from the day they arrive in your hands to the day you pass them on. However, many times such care has not been taken by a previous generation or an accident has occurred. Once damaged, old photos have a tendency to deteriorate even more quickly. For this reason it is important not to wait too long to have them restored. If it is the cost that is holding you back, consider having other family members pitch in so that you do not have to front the entire cost. Often these restored photographs will be passed out among family members anyway, so why shouldn't they share the load?
Regardless of cost, we at LaMar Photography understand the priceless nature of such precious family heirlooms. That is why we take such great care to ensure that they are being restored to the best condition they possibly can be. Over the years we've met so many of you and have enjoyed getting to know your families through your old photos. Many of you have become "Regulars", bringing us one after another of your old photos so that you may complete your own project. Our commitment to excellence, remains, as it ever will, to bring you the best of our skills so that present and future generations will know their ancestors through the power of the photograph.
